NBPOL shines at the 2022 Morobe Show

The popular Morobe Show in the Morobe Province of Papua New Guinea was back in 2022 after two years of no show due to the coronavirus pandemic. The annual event, hosted by the Morobe Province Agricultural Society (MPAS) for the 59th year, had hundreds of thousands passing through the gates comprising of women, men and children from all parts of Papua New Guinea (PNG) enjoying the spectacular highlights during October8-9 in the heart of the capital, Lae City.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Lands, Hon John Rosso officiated the show. Morobe Show is PNG’s biggest community event that showcases a variety of agricultural, horticultural, livestock, commercial, industrial, educational and cultural activities and displays.

Ramu Agri Industries Ltd (RAIL) was delighted to be part of this year’s show through displays and exhibits of its agri-businesses and related services, while being a Blue-Ribbon sponsor. Activities included displays of sample products, information packages , question-and-answer sessions with the crowd, exhibits of various processes and modelling, and sales and merchandising.

The RAIL sponsorship of over K75,000 and bales of sugar products went towards supporting around 60 traditional singsing (dancing) groups representing the diverse culture of PNG at the showgrounds.

RAIL was crowned as the Champion Exhibitor for this year’s show for its exceptional and outstanding participation in various categories.

The main NBPOL pavilion had activities of Ramu Oil Palm, Ramu Beef, Ramu Sugar and other services which attracted a huge traffic of crowd. Colourful displays were presented by the Oil Palm Team, Human Resource Team (Sugar), Research & Development Team (Sugar & Oil Palm), Sugar Production Team, Ramu Beef Team, Sustainability Team (Sugar) and Sales & Marketing Team.

The second stall focused on RAIL’s Lae-based Sales & Marketing Department (Sugar) for its sales and merchandising.  Ramu Sugar also provided a Photo Booth for show-goers and customers to take pictures and walk away with printed posters as memories of RAIL at this year’s show.

The theme for this year’s show was: “Be Productive”. MPAS President Mike Queen said his message to the young people of PNG is to “be a contributor and be productive”. “Find some ground, plant a garden, grow some food or flowers or plants to sell. Start your own cash business. Don’t rely on ads in the papers for a job. Don’t rely on family and wantoks [friends] to support you.”

He also emphasised that the current generation should not worry about paid jobs but rather explore where their talents could contribute to the general wealth of the country. He encouraged everyone to visit the variety of agricultural and horticultural displays at the showgrounds and get some ideas so they can use their land and skills and be productive in the community.  After a well-deserved win for Team RAIL, the team is looking forward to the Diamond Jubilee in 2023.
